Eggs Are Still Fun
Omer is starting to have to work later on certain days, so this means Owen and I got a little extra time to play after dinner. Owen definitely missed Daddy and asked for him several times. But then he saw his fire truck basket and ran over and poured it out and exclaimed “EGGS!”. He hasn’t shown too much interest in them since the big hunt but found them quite fun again.
We had fun squeezing them between our fingers and making them shoot across the room and break apart. Owen got pretty good at this. He was breaking them apart faster than I could gather them to put back together.
I put two of the eggs in his pockets, at first he was very curious and stuck his hands in there and then pulled them both out with a huge smile. He then wanted to put the eggs back in his pockets.

Fairfax Corner
This morning we met Kim and Caitlyn at Fairfax Corner. We started at Caribou Corner where Kim and I got to sit back and chat while Owen and Caitlyn played with the toys there. After that we went over to REI to do some quick shopping. Owen enjoyed playing with his cars around the mirror in the shoe section, playing “Mommy can’t find me in the clothes”, and fascinated by the pedals and wheels on the bikes. We ended our trip at Tree Top Toys where Caitlyn played with the train table and Owen found the bus and fire truck to play with. They also played on the indoor slide, well Caitlyn went down the slide and Owen played in the clubhouse. At the end they got their balloons, but wanted each others. Owen had a blue one and Caitlyn a purple one. On the walk back to the car all Owen kept saying is “purple balloon” and Caitlyn kept talking about the blue one. Obviously they switched and seemed to be pleased with their new balloons.

Meal Friends
Owen likes to bring a couple toys with him to most mealtimes. I know this is a bad habit but when he was going through the phase of being very picky and not wanting to eat at the table it was the way I got him to eat, and now it has carried over. He is pretty good about putting the toys to the side and eating his meal when he wants. But when he is not that interested in eating he plays a little more and eats less. Okay by me because it allows me to eat my meal.

No Tiger Woods
Our friend John and Jodi got Owen a golf club set. Omer was of course very excited to show Owen this new toy and teach him how it works. They went outside both eager but for different reasons. Owen showed a little initial interest but very quickly ran off to run up and down the hill and explore the flowers. Poor Omer, he kept trying but Owen just wasn’t that interested tonight. Owen did enjoy the orange balls that came with the set; he carried them around. For Omer’s sake I hope Owen shows some interest soon in his golf set.

Grammy Day
Grammy came to visit Owen and I for most of the day. It was nice for all of us to have some quality time. In the morning, Owen was being quite the show-off and very entertaining. We played with some form of cars pretty much the whole morning. I know, a little obsessive.
He even showed her all about his block trucks, and Grammy can build some very creative block trucks. The strange thing to me is that Owen very often will do things with others that he had never tried with me. For example, he climbed back in the wagon for a ride which he hasn’t done since Grammy and Aunt Jenni were here last. He also decided to climb on a block perch. Owen also finally said “Hi Grammy” while she was here. He has said this many times before but either way before she gets here or after she leaves. It was nice for her to get to finally hear him.
After his nap, Owen was not in the greatest mood so I thought a little wagon ride to the playground would do the trick. Well it worked for the most part, but we got to the playground way too early and after 10 minutes were asked to leave until the school was out of session. Oops! He wasn’t having that much fun there anyways because he just wanted to go in the big kid section and play with the others kids. He kept standing at the fence that is between the two hoping to get to the other side. So we ended up at the smaller neighborhood playground, which was just fine. He showed Grammy the ABC’s on the playground and the spinning dinosaurs. He likes to run over the bridge and explore all the letters. They were having fun finding all the circles mixed in with the ABC’s. She got to see first hand how Owen is just not interested in sliding. When he gets to the slide, I ask if he wants to go down and he turns around and says “ABC’s” and off he goes. We also got to see a concrete mixing truck over by the construction. This was by far the biggest hit of the afternoon. He stood there and intently studied the truck.

Then Climbed in for a Wagon Ride

Playing Peek-a-Boo, Owen would run over to Grammy, she’d hide and then Owen would run to the other side for her to pop up. He gave some big smiley giggles.

Grammy created a course with the coasters for the cars to drive through. Owen actually followed and drove the cars around the course.

New Use for a Chair
While I was cleaning this afternoon (note “Dirty” below) Owen was being very quiet so I had to check what he was doing. I came in the living room to find the chair laying on the floor and Owen hiding behind it. He was very proud of himself and continued to play there for quite awhile.
Then he decided to make it a recliner.

And with most things he started to play with his cars. He drove them along the edge.

He kept putting the train through the slats, back and forth.

Dirty
This morning after playing at the table with play-doh, we ended up under the table playing with cars. I saw some little flecks of play-doh in the carpet and started to pick it out. Well Owen wanted to join in. He picked up a piece and handed it to me and stated “dirty”.
He does this same thing with others items he finds on the floor. He is trying to hint I need to vacuum more; I don’t think I could manage more than once a week. That should be enough! But he will find something on the floor (pebble, leaf, small stick, etc…many items the dogs bring in) hand it to me and state “dirty”. I hope I am not making my kid into a clean freak as Omer would say I am. I never feel my house is completely clean even though I clean once a week. Or maybe I should think of it as maybe Owen will start helping me clean soon.
As of now I will try not to cringe when my child judges my dirty carpet.

Happy Easter
We headed over to Grammy’s house for some Easter fun. Shortly after we got there, Emma and Owen went out for an egg hunt. Once again Owen quickly started to gather all the eggs. Grammy actually “hid” them, but Owen quickly found them and piled them in his basket. Afterwards, Owen and Emma enjoyed some play time together.
Owen took a great nap and missed out on Easter dinner, but did wake in time for dessert. He requested the cake a couple times. Then we quickly got all ready to go outside and see the cows. Every time we go and visit Grammy, the cows are close and we plan to check them out but every time they head off when we get there. We were so close this time, but sadly we only got to see them run off to the other field. I think Owen was a little sad, he kept kneeling down through the fence and calling “cows?”. But we did get to visit Jackson the donkey.
Once we returned back to the house, Owen was adamant about staying outside so we headed out back and bounced on the trampoline. Both Emma and Owen really enjoyed the bouncy walking. I finally got Owen to go back inside to enjoy some more family play time. Emma had some bunny ears which Owen was a huge fan of. He found them and put them up to his head trying to wear them. I put them on and got a huge smile. He kept them on while he even played.
We all had a wonderful Easter.

Eggs, Eggs, Eggs
This morning Owen woke 2 hours early, so we had to adjust our Egg Hunting plans. We had planned on attending my mom’s group egg hunt but as it is a good 20 minute drive and the start time would definitely be near Owen’s nap, we decided to not risk a car nap and head over to our neighborhood egg hunt. It couldn’t have worked better.
Owen was very excited to carry his fire truck basket and we talked about searching for eggs. While we were waiting for the egg hunt to begin, the Easter Bunny came for a visit. Owen saw him across the pool and ran over to the fence and joyfully screamed “Bunny!”. He was very excited to meet the Easter Bunny. He just kept going back and pointing at him with a huge smile.
Then the egg hunt began and we were shocked at how quickly Owen picked up the game of “gather all the eggs”. We have practiced a couple times with picking up all his cars and putting them in the basket, but he was definitely a boy on a mission. He quickly started to pick up the eggs and put them in his basket. He filled his basket so quickly we had to empty some of them out so he could gather more.
Once we got home, Owen searched through all his eggs. He loved shaking them and opening them, but he didn’t want what was inside. Instead he would dump it for Chester to enjoy and then close the egg. We talked about eggs a lot! I am definitely going to have some egg hunts in my backyard for fun.
Later in the day, we dyed some eggs. Well Owen really watched while we did most the work, but he did enjoy rolling one egg around in the red water. He also played with the stickers that came with the pack. I think he enjoyed crushing one of the eggs the most.

Morning at Home
Owen and I stuck around home all morning. I sometimes miss this time when we have to run errands or some other activity pulls us away from home. I of course enjoy all the activities we do but do enjoy just chilling at home. This morning Owen helped me clean all his toys. This consists of me pulling out a bin and cleaning them while Owen waits and takes all the stuff I just uncovered.
I guess he got bored with my cleaning so he went to play farm. He was driving his trains through the door.

He still loves to push the music button and dance.

Later on, still in the farm mood, he took a ride on his truck. He sits on the truck and pushes the button and then bounces up and down to the music.

Then we decided to take a wagon ride while walking the pups. We passed by the playground which was luckily empty so we pulled over for a detour. I tied the pups up and Owen got to run around the playground some. As always he ran over the bridge again and again. I did think it was cute that Chloe was very concerned when she couldn’t see Owen up there. She did her concern grunt. She does this grunt when Owen is in his crib too.
When we got back, the laundry had finished and Owen got two clean blankets!!! This is always a plus. He snuggled both and ran around.
Another game Owen and I like to play is hide and seek. I go and “hide” and then Owen runs around looking for me saying “hiding, hiding”. He gets an absolute huge kick out of this.
The only catch is if I don’t run and hide quick enough, Owen will chase after me repeating “hiding?” I was trying to get away from him, but he was too quick and caught me.

Then Owen laid down and covered himself up with his blanket and said “hiding”.

With three straight days of really bad naps, it was nice to have a happy, playful Owen. These are the days I remind myself of when Owen is being grumpy. Glad these days far out number the bad ones.
