Our Little Lynus

Owen loves his blanket and will sometimes take it out of his room and downstairs. He will walk around with it just like Lynus from Peanuts. We think it is super cute.

Fall into Fairfax

The Fall into Fairfax festival was today and it was perfect weather for it. I think Owen had a great time just walking around outside at a new place. There was a train to ride and I know Owen would have liked that but the line was always about a 30 minute wait, we are not that patient.

When we got there Owen got to wander around the service trucks.

Then we went over to the petting zoo and got to touch a bunny.

And of course watch the ducks and chickens.

They had an area where you could build a scarecrow, Owen enjoyed walking around a new surface.

And pulling the hay out and dropping it.

The kid’s stage had the Animal Ambassadors and I was really interested in seeing this and thought Owen would be to. The first animal was a macaw. Owen was of course the first kid to run up to the stage area.

Then he decided this was not interested after two animals and walked off. He enjoyed walking around the festival the most. (Notice we finally found him a pair of shoes.)

In the building they had a huge train set, Owen was mildly interested.

Then we headed over to visit our friend Ali at a booth. They had a toy train set where Owen enjoyed playing and hording the pieces.

And of course he wanted to walk around with them….in his mouth.

Chloe as a Bucket

Owen loves to put things into other things or even over them. This evening he thought it would be fun to put his puzzle pieces over Chloe. He would toss them over her and then we’d toss them back over to him. Chloe was a very good sport and stayed there for this little game to go on for about four times.

Shapes, Balls & Puzzles

In the past week Owen has really been trying to put the correct pieces of things into their spot. I see this is a pretty big achievement and this morning he was really showing off all his new skills, so I quickly ran upstairs to get the camera.

I have shown him that the blocks go into the slots on the top. He only will try when it is on the floor. He was trying to put one in this morning.

I have been trying to show him that these balls go into the tube since July…and he finally will do it himself. It may have taken awhile but he finally got it. You put the ball in the tube and it counts and sings. He did this 14 times in a row this morning.

Along the “siding” of the house there are four blocks. He has started to take them out and attempt to get it back in. Once again he has been successful a handful of times.

He has also been trying to put his puzzle pieces back in their spot. Today he got the cat back in its spot and looked at me and said “cat”.

And this has nothing to do with the above but it was so cute so I had to share. In his playroom I put the jumperoo in front of a closet to block it. As Owen never really liked the jumperoo it has been pretty much only used by visiting kids. This morning he held on and was moving it, so I thought he wanted to get in. He thought it was a lot of fun, but didn’t really jump much.

Here he is enjoying a little jumping.

He decided to stretch his legs out and chill and just play with the toy bar.

Our First Emergency Trip

Last night we got to experience our first trip to the emergency doctor. Owen was walking around with a toy and happen to trip and his forehead met the corner of the dog feeder. It was a huge gash and was bleeding a lot. After I got the bleeding stopped and began reading him some books while he cuddled his blanket he began to smile and actually laugh. We hopped in the car and drove to the after hours emergency center where we had to wait about 45 mins before being seen. Owen did GREAT, he was in such good spirits for having a huge laceration and being way past bedtime.  The laceration was pretty deep and about a half inch across, we were lucky that it did not need stitches though – not sure how that would have worked. The doctor put the glue stuff over it to help it close while healing and a band-aid (which was for show). I really expected Owen to fall asleep on the ride home but I think he liked watching all the lights out the window. Once we got home it was around 10:00 and he went right to sleep. As with any head injury, concussions are a concern so we were advised to startle him every 3 hours while he slept. He did pretty well sleeping and even with us startling him he slept like he always would. It was hard for me to set my alarm clock through the night, but I managed. We were told we could take the band-aid off once we got home but he hasn’t touched or bothered it, so we have left it on. And now I just can’t seem to face taking it off, maybe I don’t want to see his big boo-boo. Today he has been his normal happy self and we even went to our play-date. So far today he hasn’t seemed fazed by the experience.

Walking the Dogs

I hosted playgroup this afternoon for my mom’s group and with about 14 kids here it was pretty hectic and thought it would be nice to take the dogs for a walk and let Owen chill a little in his wagon. I had leashed up the dogs and Owen grabbed the leashes and started walking away. He went from the back door all the way to the front door and the dogs happily followed him.

Quack, Quack

With Owen not napping in the morning anymore he gets a little antsy, needy, grumpy (you pick the word) around 10:30. I usually can help him make it through this time with distractions. Today nothing was working, so on went the TV.

I still try my best never to let him watch TV and I usually stick to this. Generally I will let him watch for 15 mins a day if at all and being that I made my goal of not letting him before 12 mos, I don’t feel as bad. I know, I’m a little neurotic sometimes.

Most of the time he really could care less if the TV is on but when Elmo is on he is VERY drawn to him. Today Elmo was talking about birds and ducks. When the ducks were on Owen kept quacking at the TV and went to grab the dog’s duck toy.

The Many Sounds of Owen

Owen enjoys making many different sounds; ones that he has created on his own or copied us on. He really likes it when you go back and forth with him with that sound; it is almost like a conversation. Some of the sounds he consistently does throughout the day, but not limited to, include: panting like a dog, clicking his tongue on his top teeth, hissing like a snack, making a “theeee” sound, and moving his hand over his mouth to make a “blablabla” sound. He was doing this in the car and thought it was mighty funny when I did it back. I happen to have the camera with me so I thought I would record it. I completely forgot though that I had the camera the wrong direction, so cock your head to the left and enjoy the sounds and giggles of Owen.

Owen’s First Sting

Yes my baby got stung by a wasp today. :( We were walking to the car after hiking class and I glanced down and there was a wasp on Owen’s arm. Immediately I wanted to smack it away and kill it, but I know that that would have provoked it even more. So I gently swiped it away but it had already gotten him. I honestly think I startled Owen more than the wasp, but he wailed a good one. After a couple snuggles with his blanket, he was fine. I wasn’t, but he was. The swelling went down pretty quickly and he never seemed fazed by the sting all day. I guess the one good thing that came out of this is I now know he is not allergic to bees.

Another Busy Saturday

We ventured out to Leesburg Outlets this morning in hopes of finding Owen some shoes and fall clothes. Overall the trip went really well and even though we found no shoes we liked, we did get some nice fall clothes. Owen did not seem to enjoy the whole shopping experience but did enjoy all the stuff to watch and excitement around him. He did really well sitting in his stroller for awhile, but I guess like any mover he wanted out. He enjoyed wandering around the stores and walking on the sidewalks through the shopping center.

We got there a little early and he got to ride on a mechanical train. He absolutely loved this.

He helped us pick out some clothes.

Later in the afternoon, we headed over to Omer’s work friends BBQ. Once again Owen had a blast. He wandered around their yard and then found this yard game where he seriously played with for over 30 minutes. He would take the washers in and out of the hole, stack them, bang them, etc. I think this was the highlight of his day.

They also have a trampoline and he was in the mood for some bouncing. When we stopped he would bounce a little; as a hint for more.
