Weekend of Visitors

We had a mix of a chill weekend and a busy weekend, I know sounds strange. But on Saturday I ran errands sans Owen (always easier) while the boys went to visit Babaanna then we met at Michael’s to pick up some craft items for Owen. He has really started to enjoy and request to do crafts. It was a fun outing and even more fun when we got home. Lots of foam stickers on paper.

All the while I was trying to get everything cooked and ready for Omer’s birthday BBQ. We had a bunch of our friends over at 6:00 to hang out and of course eat some yummy food. After nap we hung out until Robb showed up around 4:30. Owen went into complete show off mode and was bringing him animals and cars. He always really likes Robb.

Then everyone else started to show up, there was 12 of us and 1 more child, Lilli. It was very cute to watch the two kids play together, they did great. Some cute moments: Owen kept trying to feed her chips, they hung out in the teepee together, and Owen kept putting stickers on her and she would want them off. He also had a great time putting stickers all over Jodi. But the cutest moment was when Owen was going up to bed and giving everyone kisses goodnight and he wanted to give Lilli one. He took her suckie out and bent down to try to kiss her lips, she gave him her forehead. It was adorable! I was pleased at how well he did with all the people in the house and then slept great even with us still all there. During his bath he did ask about the people and then told me “I kiss Lilli. Lilli take a bath. Lilli go to bed.”

Then on Sunday when Owen woke up and I told him we should go see Daddy and Robb downstairs, he got very excited that our visitor was still here. He came down and once again started to show Robb his toys and saying “Robb play cars”.

Then Robb left and enjoyed the wonderful weather, the normal sandbox, playground, and running around. Then Jenni came by for a quick visit. Owen was as always excited to see her. They searched for bugs on the patio, Owen showed her his dragonfly, he tickled her (his new thing), and then inside for some sticker play.

Lots of Tickles

After Owen’s nap we headed over to Beth and Christina’s house for an improptu playdate. Owen was beyond excited, we were playing stickers when she called to say come on over and I mentioned Christina’s house and he was at the door waiting in a matter of seconds. The two of them had a good time playing together while Beth and I caught up. He had lots of fun pretending to drink from her tea set (”hmmm, that’s tasty”), she also taught him a fun game where you “jump” over candlesticks (blocks stacked up), Owen joined in on the game after watching a couple times. But I think one of best moments was when Owen and Christina started to tickle Beth, even on her hair. There were lots of giggles. Through some tears I finally got his shoes on to leave to just go outside and both kids sliding in the front. He was having a blast but I was hungry and needed to get dinner started, already running late. :) But then he started to tickle Christina and even gave her a hug. So cute. I finally had to just pick him up and make him leave with a lot of tears. Beth and Christina came to say bye to him in the car and that made him a little happier; through his residue tears he said “bye Christina” and then almost all the way home he whined her name here and there. I seriously Owen has a crush!!!

Once again, I am so sorry for the blurry pictures, I think the little camera really needs to looked at, but look through the blurs for some cute moments.

Rocker Comparison

This morning we were playing downstairs and I had to run up to start lunch and when I came back Owen had dragged his cow rocker from the living room to his playroom and was completely chillin’. He was very proud of himself. When he climbed in and sat it reminded me of when he was so itty-bitty and the chair swallowed him up. So I grabbed the camera (sadly the nice one was all the way upstairs getting recharged so they didn’t come out that well.)

His game was having me lay on the floor with the “orange cat” (Garfield) and he would lay in the chair and we would sleep. He would tell me “goodnight mommy”. It was fun to look back at his baby pictures.

Hail to the Redskins

I know this will come as a surprise that Omer has been singing the Redskins song to Owen for a long time. So of course Owen has picked it up and can pretty much sing the entire song. He loves the song! He will sing it when he sees Redskins stuff or ask for the “Redskins song” and Daddy and him will sing together.

Today is the first real game of the season so of course I put on Owen’s Moss jersey. Well he got very excited when he saw it and started to sing the song while he got dressed. Then of course Omer is wearing a Redskins shirt too, and when he came downstairs to go to work Owen got super excited. “Daddy has Redskins, Owen has Redskins.” Then they started to sing the song and Omer was able to get a video of Owen singing pretty much the whole song. He sings some of the lines very fast so a little hard to understand. The complete song is below for those that don’t know it. :)

Hail to the Redskins
Hail Victory
Braves on the Warpath
Fight for ole DC
Run or pass and score - we want a lot more (Owen’s favorite line)
Beat ‘em, Swamp ‘em
Touchdown - Let’s the point soar
Fight on, Fight on ’til you have won
Sons of Wash-ing-ton Rah! Rah! Rah! (also Owen’s favorite)
….and this is when Owen stopped singing.

After song-time with Daddy he ran over to grab his football and quickly pounced on the couch. Omer was lucky and got a cute shot.

Loves the Girls

I have noticed this before but today was a perfect example of this. Owen gravitates and loves girls. :) All from trying to hold hands with a random girl at the library to following after a random girl at the playground to following them around and trying to play with them at playgroup. You just have to giggle at it, it’s so cute.

At our playgroup yesterday which is 7 boys and 1 girl, Owen was playing with cars over in a corner for close to an hour and then finally came out to play around the other kids. But completely different picture today. I hosted my Th group at Owen was excited to see Marley and Sylvia come over and pretty much followed them around trying to play together. He was happy to get some hugs from them and even a kiss from Sylvia when she left. Don’t get me wrong though he enjoys playing with boys too. James also came and Owen and him drove cars on the couch and Owen put stickers all over James.

About Perfect Day

**Note: I updated a post with pictures, forgot I had them on the camera. :)

So today was the kind of day that I just love and live for. Owen woke up at 7:00 happily and played in his bed for a little bit. He also didn’t make a peep last night, so both of us got a wonderful nights sleep. To explain, Owen has been startling several times a night for awhile now, we think he has started to have dreams. Luckily we normally don’t have to go in but it still wakes me up. So it was very nice to get a good nights sleep.

So started off on a good foot. Then there wasn’t much whining, no real tantrums, lots of fun playing and hanging out together. This morning, while Owen played I got some house cleaning done (we host playgroup tomorrow so needed to get it clean). Then we were off to Matthew’s house for playgroup, in which Owen told me “Matthew has lots of cars”. Very true. Playgroup was a lot of fun, everyone was there, so I got to catch up with friends. And Owen at first played with his cars in the corner but then slowly came over to play with some buddies. He had so much fun he didn’t want to leave.

Then we had a wonderful lunch and more playful fun. He took a good nap, so I was able to complete all the cleaning and even get a couple other things done. After he woke, we walked the dogs to the creek. And Owen got to search for bugs and play in the creek. Then it was back home where we enjoyed a Popsicle on the porch. Then we came inside and Owen went to his table and asked for glue. Wow he asked for a craft, I was happy. Luckily I had some stuff left from our last craft, so out came a piece of paper to glue on. Owen loved it and made a beautiful creation. :)

Then he played and snacked (he’s been really hungry lately) while I made dinner. I made BBQ chicken which Owen used to love but in the past months he has been very anti-meat, so I only gave him a couple pieces. Well he went right for, devoured it, and kept asking for more. Omer and I were sad but we gave up a good chunk of our chicken to him, want to promote the meat eating. After dinner, the boys went to play while I got some more stuff done.

It was just a near perfect day and I am hoping for more like these. (I hope I didn’t jinx myself.)

Missing Friends

As you have read we didn’t really see any of our friends last week except Elizabeth and Tyler and Jane and Sylvia, well I think Owen has finally started to miss all his friends. On the way home from storytime this morning, Owen just blurted out “go play with friends?” I told him we would see everyone tomorrow. Then he started to request “play Christina”, “play Tyler”, and “play Max and Luke”. So once we returned home, I emailed Beth and Elizabeth (Lauren is in Texas right now) to see if they were available to play this afternoon so Owen can get some friend time. Luckily Elizabeth and Tyler are free so we will be heading over after nap to play. Thanks Elizabeth!

A cute moment: After storytime we were picking out some new books to check out and we were walking down an aisle and there was a girl there, probably 3 yrs old or so. Owen went up to her and started to try to hold her hand while saying “you want to hold hands?” It was so absolutely adorable. Sadly I guess the older girl did not want to hold hands with a 2 year old, but at least did give him a smile and hi.

Happy Birthday Daddy

It is Omer’s actual birthday today and Owen has said it throughout the day. Actually told him this morning and then enjoyed some tickles. He also sang him the birthday song last night at dinner. It was cute. What was really cute was at lunch today (Omer was not there) Owen out of no where said “Happy Birthday Daddy”, then he continued to tell Lighting McQueen, Tow Mater, police car, fire truck, Christina, Chloe, Chester, and even himself happy birthday. It was really funny.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!

We had to open Omer’s gift in teh guest room because it was a very huge box that actually says to Team Lift but when it came I had to haul it upstairs by myself so he wouldn’t see it and with no wrapping I was not about to move it again.

Opening his Card (love Owen’s confused face)

Okay bad planning, I thought I had enough wrapping paper but not even close, so I drapped it with the cover - Omer did not care. And Chester took a moment to snuggle on the wrapping.

Owen wanted to help open, he kept going underneath.

Finally Opening

Ooh a Grill for Tailgating

What’s it do Daddy?

Then it was off to finally put together the tents to Owen’s tent-tunnel set. Owen had a great time “helping” but much more once it was all done. However he hasn’t really played with them the past day until he saw the pictures and got all excited and went in there with his teddy bear tonight (Wed) and snuggled in the tent.

Labor Day Weekend

Yes, this is going to be another long post with a compilation of days.

Saturday: Owen woke on the wrong side of the bed this morning and was just cranky; I guess we all have those days. So we read a lot of books in the morning and decided to run a couple errands. His favorite was to Books a Million where he got to play with their train table while Omer picked up some books. And I got to go grocery shopping minus kid, always easier. Then I was off to see Les Mis at Wolf Trap with my mom and sister. The show was great and my lord my sister knows the whole thing by heart. :) Sadly for Omer, Owen only napped an hour. Eek! So after watching some of the Tech game and going to pick up another sticker book, we returned from the show. Shockingly he wasn’t that tired and was beyond excited when Grandma and Jenni came to visit briefly. He was banging on the window while we were walking up and once inside the energy ball didn’t stop. He was running around squealing and then put his Redskins monkey on and was bouncing on the couch with Jenni and making his monkey dance back and forth. It was hilarious.

Sunday: Thank goodness Owen woke up in a much better mood. Omer got to “sleep” in while Owen and I began our morning. We had a lot of fun as normal. Then we all went on the hike together. It was beautiful out again, and I was happy to have the company and to have Omer carry the backpack, even though Owen doesn’t really stay in there very long. Everyone had a great time and Omer commented on how cute it is to watch Owen run through the hike, go up and down the hills, and search for a “good stick”. As always Owen gave Chloe hugs and snuggles three times during the hike. So very cute!

Then after nap we headed over to Omer’s parents house to celebrate his birthday. Owen was excited to see everyone and I got him to tell them “Maraba” (hello in Turkish). Babaanna gave him a tube of jungle animals and of course Owen was excited. He dumped them all out and took them to play in his dirt spot. Then he brought them all back over to play in the chair with the rest of us. He once again took to Jorge, and got him to play with him in the dirt again. At one point I went over to play with him after Jorge had left and he told me “No Mommy, you sit in chair. The man plays in the dirt.” :) He did very good during dinner and sat with us the whole time. He kept going around the table to all the men and saying “daddy, daddy, daddy…” He got laughs. Babaanna mentioned that she made a cake and about 10 minutes after she had, she asked Owen if he wanted anything else to eat. His response “I want cake.” Lots of laughs! He doesn’t get cake very often so he was excited and loved it and kept asking for more. Thanks to Becko for remembering her camera and sending me some pictures.

Monday: I got to stay in bed this morning while Omer started the morning with Owen. WooHoo! Then Owen and I headed over to Frying Pan Farm while Omer went to golf with some buddies for his birthday. Owen and I had a great time and got there at feeding time so all the animals came out and up to the fences, always a nice treat. The whole time we where there he wanted to talk and be with the other kids, I love that he is so social and friendly but it does make me sad when some of them ignore him. He did find a girl to play with on the playground, they ran up the ladder and down the stairs many times.

Rainy Day Craft

Once again it is raining and has been all day. We originally had planned to go to playgroup this morning but the electrician got here very late from traffic caused by a wreck. As I could not leave them here, we hunkered down in the house and enjoyed some more solo time. This will all shock you, so sit down…..Owen did not play with any cars all morning!!!! I know, right? He didn’t play with any yesterday afternoon either. Has he gotten bored of them or just want to play with his other toys for once.

Our morning consisted of a lot of stickers, coloring, reading (he loves when we get new library books), puzzles, then downstairs to play trains, little people and lots of jungle gym on Mom (which I started) - I was lifting him up and sort of twirling him around. It was lots of fun.

He also enjoyed watching the electricians work. He’d run over to the door and talk about them going up the ladder and what the worker men were doing, installing a fan. I am also proud to say that minus the cartoon in the morning he always watches while I brush my teeth and hair, etc. we watched zero TV. We are not much on the TV use anyways but when you are home all day it is tempting. :)

I also decided to finally do a craft at home with Owen. He actually enjoys doing crafts but I am honestly not good at planning them so we always do them at Wee Play. But the work was done for me, I missed a class and the teacher gave me the craft from that day to do at home. It was two dinosaurs that we got to glue lots of different items on. Owen was very excited to do a craft at home, and we sat there for quite awhile putting each piece on and him talking about the colors and textures. It was fun I must say. The cutest part was the macaroni, he called them “manaroone” and collected them all out of the pile and then sprinkled them on the dinosaur. He was very patient while they waited on the counter drying. And when he got them back to play, we bounded them around the room and made the roar. I also have to include Owen did not like when the glue got all over his hands. It would show them to me and say “hands all sticky” and wait for me to wipe them off…a wet paper towel came in handy. It was a fun rainy day at home.
